McDonald’s Chiikawa Toys Battle: The Winner Is NOT Chiikawa

McDonald’s Hong Kong’s recent Chiikawa Happy Meal campaign set off a wave of kawaii mania from late July to August, with each toy release resulting in a surge of app orders, and plenty of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) while stock lasted. But when we peeked at the numbers of McDonald’s online store receipts, one thing stood out — Chiikawa didn’t win the popularity crown.

The table shows the recent leaderboard from McDonald’s Chiikawa Happy Meal campaign, with Hachiware (ハチワレ) taking the top spot, followed closely by Usagi (うさぎ) and Rakko (ラッコ). Chiikawa (ちいかわ) — landed in fourth place, while Momonga (モモンガ) rounded out the rankings. This table highlights the staggered rollout strategy that kept fans engaged over the campaign period.
