Duolingo’s Owl is Dead! Your Inbox is the Crime Scene

On February 11th, it was announced that Duolingo’s mascot – our beloved owl Duo, is dead. In the official statement, Duolingo reveals that Duo has ‘probably died waiting for you to do your lesson’. There had been many speculations around the cause of death, but what if Duo has faked their own murder?

Duo has been sending emojis 🥺, 💔, 😢, 🥶, and 🤢 to language learners even after its ‘death’. Why are fellow language learners still getting messages of Duo’s distress? Is Duo still watching them?  According to bird science, Duo should be resting in peace in bird heaven as all birds do. The only explanation is that Duo lives.

Measurable AI’s data shows that among all the emojis Duo sent out, 34.4% is this one 🥺 (about to cry face). And 29.9% are the 💔 (heartbroken). After its death, the emojis Duo sent out remain similar breakdown, with 😢 (crying face) rising a little bit at 22%.

Duo still speaks to us… after ‘death’ 

Measurable AI observes in our panel that a significant amount of emails are messages from Duo. It is unlikely that the ghost of Duo is sending us emails because ghosts only send emails telepathically.
